Meet DeAnn
Hi, I’m DeAnn Knighton, ACMHC. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies from the University of Utah and an MA in Counseling from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. After more than 20 years in healthcare sales and recruitment, I transitioned into counseling to pursue a long-standing passion for mental health and the need for compassionate, evidence-based care.
My counseling approach is person-centered and integrative. I work from a humanistic foundation, meeting clients with empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. Treatment is tailored to each individual and may draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy. I view the therapeutic relationship as collaborative and inherently healing, and I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered.
I believe deeply in the power of story. The narratives we hold about ourselves and our experiences can shape how we heal and grow. In therapy, I help clients explore and re-author these stories using both practical tools and reflective work to support meaningful change.
Outside of my work, I stay grounded through music, movement, and creative projects. Time outdoors—camping, hiking, and paddleboarding—along with connection to family, friends, and pets helps me stay balanced. I am passionate about recovery advocacy, particularly improving aftercare and long-term support for individuals living with substance use disorders, and I enjoy writing and podcasting on mental health, identity, and recovery
