Anxiety & Depression Therapy in Utah

When anxiety or depression start running the show, even simple things can feel heavy. You might be overthinking every decision, struggling to get out of bed, feeling on edge most of the time, or wondering why you cannot “just handle it” the way other people seem to. Maybe you look put together from the outside while feeling stuck, numb, or exhausted inside.

Purple Sky Counseling offers anxiety and depression therapy for children, teens, and adults across Utah. The focus is not only on easing symptoms, but also on understanding what is underneath them so you can move toward steadier, long-term change instead of just getting through the week.

When anxiety and depression do not let up

Anxiety and depression can show up in many different ways: racing thoughts, dread, panic, irritability, shutdown, emptiness, guilt, or feeling disconnected from yourself and others. For some people, these feelings have a clear trigger. For others, they have been around for so long that they almost feel like a personality, not a condition.

Many people who come to Purple Sky have already tried coping skills or even past therapy and still feel stuck. That doesn’t mean you are doing something wrong—it often means there is more going on underneath: trauma, chronic stress, burnout, identity struggles, or relational patterns that have never really been named.

How Purple Sky can help

At Purple Sky Counseling, anxiety and depression are not treated as random symptoms to get rid of as quickly as possible. They are seen as signals that something in your life, nervous system, or history needs attention and care.

Therapists work with you to:

  • Understand how anxiety or depression show up in your body, thoughts, and relationships.

  • Look at important context, like trauma, identity, work, family, and stress.

  • Explore the patterns that keep you feeling stuck or like you are repeating the same cycles.

  • Build support for both immediate relief and deeper healing over time.

Because Purple Sky is a multidisciplinary practice, you can access counseling, medication management, testing, and specialty services in the same overall system. When it is helpful, therapists and psychiatric providers can collaborate so your care feels more connected and less scattered.

Therapy approaches we use

There is no single way to work with anxiety and depression, so therapists at Purple Sky draw from different approaches depending on what fits you best.

You do not have to know which approach you need before you start. You and your therapist can talk about options, including whether something like EMDR might be a good fit, and move at a pace that respects your readiness and nervous system capacity.

If medication is part of what you are considering, our in-house medication providers offer Psychiatry & Medication Management so therapy and psychiatric support can stay coordinated when that fits your care.

Therapy for anxiety and depression may include:

  • Trauma-informed individual therapy that looks at past experiences, present stress, and how they interact.

  • EMDR and other trauma-focused methods when anxiety or depression are tied to overwhelming or unresolved experiences.

  • DBT-informed work to support emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and relationship skills.

  • Parts- and attachment-informed approaches to help make sense of inner conflicts, shame, or self-criticism.

  • Support around identity, neurodivergence, religious or cultural experiences, and life transitions when those are part of the picture.

When medication is part of the picture

For some people, therapy alone is enough to gradually shift anxiety and depression. For others, medication becomes an important part of feeling stable enough to function or engage in deeper work. Purple Sky Counseling offers medication management through psychiatric nurse practitioners who can:

  • Provide evaluations for anxiety, depression, and related concerns.

  • Discuss medication options in a straightforward, collaborative way.

  • Prescribe and monitor medications when that is the route you choose.

  • Coordinate with your therapist so therapy and medication can support each other.

You are never required to take medication to receive therapy here. The goal is to give you options and support, not pressure. If you are curious about whether medication could help alongside therapy, you can talk about that in your sessions or with the intake team.
