Hi, I’m Kara
The strategies that work for other people's kids don't work for yours. You've read the books, tried the charts, held it together through a meltdown in a parking lot, and you still get advice from people who have no idea what your Tuesday actually looks like. You're not doing it wrong. You're doing something harder than the advice was written for.
Most of my work is with neurodivergent and trauma-affected children, tweens, and teens, and with their parents, who are usually carrying more than anyone around them realizes. I also see new and expecting mothers, including moms whose first weeks of motherhood were spent beside a hospital bassinet rather than at home. Alongside that I work with clients of all ages living with anxiety, depression, or OCD, people navigating a faith crisis, particularly within the LDS faith, and couples who want a partnership that feels good to be in.
I'm a mother of three, and I won't pretend that makes me an expert on your family. It does mean I know what it is to be tired in a way sleep doesn't fix, and to love people fiercely while having no idea what you're doing. I'm practical and warm, and more interested in what will help you get through this week than in a tidy explanation of why it's hard.

I work with CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness techniques, and motivational interviewing, in both individual and group settings. With kids I follow their lead on pace and keep things concrete. With parents I focus on what changes at home, because that's where a child's week actually happens. With mothers, I start by saying the true thing out loud, which is often the part nobody has offered them yet.
I'm especially drawn to the seasons that are supposed to be joyful and aren't, and to helping parents of trauma-affected and neurodivergent children stop measuring themselves against families that look nothing like theirs.
